The ongoing financial support of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) is playing a key role in feeding the body and mind of students in Saskatoon’s public and separate school divisions through its support of school nutrition programs.
PotashCorp’s $280,000 overall contribution for the 2016-17 school year will be allocated to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and to the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation, which supports students within Saskatoon Public Schools.

Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation will commit its $150,000 share to the PotashCorp Food4Thought Nutrition Program, which supports the ongoing efforts to provide daily nutritious meals and community garden programs in 20 schools that are part of Saskatoon Public Schools. Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools will use its $130,000 to support breakfast, lunch and snack programs and community gardens in 16 schools across its system. Since 2012, PotashCorp has provided a total of $2,155,000 to support these nutrition programs.
“It’s critical that school nutrition programs are there to help kids who need them. We know children are healthier and happier when they can access the food they need to learn and grow,” said Denita Stann, PotashCorp’s Senior Vice President of Investor and Public Relations. “Improving local food security in this way is important to us at PotashCorp.”
“We know that students who come to school hungry can be less attentive and less receptive to learning,” said Zeba Ahmad, chair of the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation. “The generous, ongoing support of PotashCorp helps the Foundation and the school division provide nutritious food to students so they are well-nourished and able to learn. This annual commitment continues to strengthen a valuable partnership that plays an important role in responding to the needs of students and school communities.”
“We’re so pleased to have the continued support of PotashCorp for our school nutrition programs,” said Diane Boyko, chair of Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools’ Board of Education. “Recent reports of food bank usage going up in our city and province really highlight the importance of coming together as a community to help those who are vulnerable and give our children everything they need to succeed. We’re fortunate to have a community partner like PotashCorp.”
