Flying Dust Market Garden donates to Door of Hope

The Flying Dust Market Garden has enjoyed a good year with a plentiful harvest of certified organic vegetables and to express its gratefulness gave a substantial donation of potatoes to the Door of Hope. Although the FD Market Garden (previously Riverside Market Garden) has donated produce from the Garden to the Door of Hope ever since it started in 2009, due to the abundance of the potato yield this year and the support of our corporate buyers, they were able to donate more substantially.
FD Market Garden, at the encouragement of Flying Dust First Nation Chief and Council and the Flying Dust Band Holdings Board, will be supplying the Door of Hope with 1500 pounds of certified organic potatoes over the next several weeks as needs at the Door of Hope require. This represents an investment in a very important community service in Meadow Lake that is worth more than $1,800 of retail sales. FDMG, Chief and Council and FDBH are very pleased to be able to make this contribution and hope to do even better in succeeding years as the FD Market Garden grows.
“We also process potatoes for SIGA which is ordering 3000 pounds of potatoes every week. We also deliver to 4 Sobey’s stores in Saskatoon and Lloydminster, Meadow Lake Co-op Marketplace, the Eatery on Main as well as Flying Dust First Nation and English River First Nation who supported the Garden through community shared agriculture agreements and CHEP Good Food Box in Saskatoon,” said Manager Len Sawatsky. “All the work being done is by First Nations people from Flying Dust and elsewhere, and the operation is run under the auspices of Flying Dust Band Holdings.”
A formal presentation was made to representatives of the Door of Hope during Chief and Council Meetings at Flying Dust First Nation Band Office in November.
