Tiernan Roszell, gold medal winner, was so happy when got the call that he made it for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) to compete in athletics.
"I was very surprised. This is my first year in track and field and I didn't know what to expect and I was really happy that I made it to represent Team Sask."
He trained MMA and various types of martial arts to train himself for NAIG. He ran track for his school in Raymore and had a workout routine to prepare himself.
So far, he is enjoying his experience at the games.
"It's been very fun and its an awesome experience for anyone. It's something that you can't miss out on, very fun for everyone and it's great meeting people from all over. It's a once in a lifetime experience."
After completing high school, he hopes to get an athletics scholarship and attend a college close by his home community so he could be near his grandparents because they mean a lot to him.
His message to the youth who would like to come to NAIG is to believe in yourself.
"It's an awesome experience. If you have the chance to, take it. You never know what can happen as long as you believe and do your best and never give up."
