Program: Office Education certificate
Hometown: Moose Jaw, SK
The desire to provide financial stability for her family motivated Charlotte Blondeau to enrol in Office Education at SIAST Palliser Campus.
"I have a family now, so I want to have a secure career. I was tired of working low-paying jobs with little return for a lot of hard work."
The Office Education program met Blondeau's needs, and she's confident the skills she has gained will lead to employment in her hometown, where she can also be near her extended family.
"I see myself working full-time, preferably for the federal government in administration work or else in business. I am excited about my future."
While studying at SIAST, like many students, Blondeau was at times stressed out by the multiple demands of work, school and a young family. But she found help on campus by forming a peer support group and by accessing other support options: "The Aboriginal Success Achievement Plan (ASAP), the Aboriginal students Centre and Learning Services all offered great supports. SIAST staff are very helpful and wanted to see me succeed.
"No matter what your obstacles, I encourage you to go back to school."
