The provincial government is planning to seek advice from foster families in a variety of Saskatchewan communities over the next several months.
"Strong foster families are a vital part of any healthy child welfare system," says Greg Lawrence, Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services for Foster Care.
Social Services Minister, June Draude, says recruiting and retaining foster families is one of her top priorities.
"Our foster families do such wonderful work by opening their hearts and homes to our most vulnerable citizens," she adds.
Legislative Secretary Lawrence says he will work closely with the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association over the next several months, as he visits communities to hear what they think is working and what they think needs improvement in the foster care system.
The communities he will visit include Prince Albert, North Battleford, Saskatoon, Regina, Yorkton, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift current, and Lloydminster.
The goal of the meetings is to use the gathered information to retain current foster families and recruit new ones.
