Ledoux elected MLCN chief in tight race

There’s a new chief on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation after Gilbert Ledoux narrowly edged out incumbent Cliff Tawpisin Jr. in Monday’s election by two votes.
A total of five people officially ran for chief.
One candidate, Barry Longneck, dropped out before the election but his name remained on the ballot.
Votes cast for him were recorded as spoiled.
Barret Greyeyes, Dana Greyeyes and Kelly Wolfe are also newly elected to council.
At 373, Dana Greyeyes garnered the most votes for council.
They join re-elected councillors Albert Dean Lafond and Harry James Lafond.
A total of 13 people ran for the five resident councillor positions.
Paul K. Ledoux was elected as non-resident councillor.
He defeated three other candidates.
Roughly 730 voters cast ballots in the elections.
The Muskeg Lake Cree Nation is located about 83 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon near Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan.
