HOME: LENNOX ISLAND, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
SPORT: WRESTLING
Logan Lewis, a Mi'kmaq from Prince Edward Island, was happy when he heard the news that he made it for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) to compete in wrestling.
"I felt pretty good. Something new and I get to go to a place that I haven't been to before. Get to see our relatives from different communities and cultures. It's a pretty awesome idea to bring us all together."
It's his first time coming to Saskatchewan and so far he likes it in Regina.
"It's pretty good. It's not as hot as I thought it'd be but it's awesome."
He has been wrestling since he was in grade 8 and he trains with a well-known wrestler from his province.
"I would go to two practises a week almost an hour away from my community. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I have judo practices so that also helps me."
He says he's looking forward to having fun competing in NAIG and also to check out the Cultural Village at the First Nations University of Canada.
"I think that's going to be pretty cool. Get to see everyone else's cultures and bring their own aspect to help show different teachings from other tribes."
His advice to the youth is work hard at what you're good at and have fun.
"Come here to do what you love to do whether it's cultural-wise or sports-wise. If you don't do what you want to do, then you'll get a lot of regret."
