Mom-Preneur aims to kickstart her company while learning to be a New Mom
SheNative is pleased to announce the launch of Kickstarter campaign ending November 11, 2016.
Proud owner and new mom-preneur, Devon Fiddler, of Saskatchewan’s Waterhen Lake First Nation, is launching a Kickstarter campaign aiming to take her company, SheNative Goods Inc., to the next level and making a big difference in the lives of Indigenous women.
Officially launched in April 2015, SheNative is a lifestyle brand dedicated to creating positive opportunities for Indigenous women and girls. The company’s mission is to help change the perception of the Indigenous woman by providing a platform for them to tell their stories, by creating employment opportunities for Indigenous artisans, suppliers, and designers, and by contributing a portion of its profits to causes that support the economic vitality of Indigenous women.

This isn’t Fiddler’s first try at crowdfunding. “We’ve successfully raised $23,000 in crowdfunding in 2013 and 2014 to help start SheNative,” says Fiddler, “and now we’re working on our next collection of newly improved leather handbags. Through this campaign, we are planning on starting some of the production in Saskatoon while maintaining our connection to our Toronto based manufacturer. We are aiming to hire an Indigenous leathercrafter to work directly with us in Saskatoon to begin sewing our simple designs, and incorporate beadwork and other traditional design and asthetics inspired by Saskatchewan Cree heritage.”
“You would think being a new mom would slow me down, when it actually inspires me to do more! I was planning on starting this campaign months ago, but had to take a break to have my newborn in July. After the dust settled, and I started to feel strong again, I decided it was time to pick up where I left off, and reach for the goals that I set for SheNative,” says Fiddler, “and here we are, raising funds to take the company to new heights”.
