The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) made it on the 2017 Best Workplaces in Canada list. Shauna Bear, the SIGA Vice-President of Human Resources, said they are happy to be recognized in this year’s list.
“This is something that we’re very proud of and really excited to be named to the 2017 list of Great Places to work in Canada,” she said. “This list features the top 50 companies chosen right across the country and SIGA placed #49. Our pride is definitely showing on this front.”

SIGA commits to fostering a high level of employee engagement by providing a safe workplace, financial self-reliance and a comprehensive benefits package for their employees. A few of SIGA’s innovative policies include an extensive benefits package that includes health, dental and long-term disability life insurance. Bear said SIGA encourages their employees to take advantage of the health benefits by going for massages, chiropractic treatments and acupuncture to ensure the well-being and productivity of their employees.
“Everyday we aim to instill a sense of pride, place of belonging in our employees and this is proof that we are doing just that,” she said.
The process of compiling the top 50 workplaces list started with a survey based on direct feedback from employees about their employment experiences. The employee survey also measured the sense of pride the employees provided in their feedback.
“Particularly when you look at the survey score itself, SIGA scored 83% in the survey which is pretty respectable and something we’re very proud of,” she said.
The second part of the compilation process involved a comprehensive review of the SIGA employee programs, services and employment practices.
Bear says SIGA making it onto the 2017 list shows that they can compete with big companies as they were categorized under large multinational companies. SIGA placed with large companies such as Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), SC Johnson Canada and Microsoft – a worldwide leader in software.
“To be placed amongst the ranks of those best organizations, it really means a lot to SIGA and it shows that we’re committed to fostering a high level of engagement within our workplace,” Bear said. “We thank our employees for their integrity, their passion and their commitment to delivering an exceptional First Nations hospitality and for making SIGA a great place to work.”
SIGA hosts different trainings and programs such as health and wellness days where they have some on-site gyms in a few of their casinos, numerous team-building events throughout the year, and family day events for their employees. There are 1,883 SIGA employees in Canada.
