Nolan Thorburn has won five gold and silver medals in athletics at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). When he heard that he made it for NAIG, he was very excited to be a part of the games.
"felt pretty happy. I felt confident about making it and I was so happy about coming here."
He has been playing the sport for about two to three years. He says his sister is his inspiration to play because she participated in NAIG a few times and now she plays professional hockey.
His experience has been very rewarding with winning a gold medal and gaining a new experience to bring back home.
"It's been an unreal experience; I had a couple good races. I had a fun time and I've met a lot of people."
He hopes to attend university after he graduates high school and take either law or social work because he likes to help out the youth and also to play track on the side.
Thorburns advice to the youth who would like to be a part of the games in the future is to believe in themselves.
"Keep trying and keep going. Make sure you run and learn your forum. Get a couple of coaches and always remember to give back to your community."
