CALVIN NAPOPE
AGE: 14
HOMETOWN: ST. LOUIS
TEAM SASK
SPORT: ATHLETICS U14
Calvin Napope, winner of four gold medals, has been playing in athletics for almost five years now. He was happy when he learned he was competing in the sport for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Regina.
When he first got the news that he made it for NAIG, he said he felt great.
"It was nice trying out for the team and hearing what would happen if we made the team so I was really excited."
Not only is he winning medals but he has been having a fun time socializing at the games.
"It's been really good, Ive met a lot of people and I've had fun trading pins with other athletes. After the meet, I'll probably trade some more pins."
He's been inspired by other students in his school who have made it far and some of them went as far to the Olympics.
"In my head, I want to do that one day and make my school proud."
He's been preparing himself for the games and for the nationals which are coming up. He's been training three times a week doing sprints, vertical work and workouts.
After he completes high school, he hopes to get a scholarship from somewhere and to attend the university in Toronto.
"I'd want an education degree and become a teacher so I could be a coach for my school in St. Louis."
His advice to the future athletes in NAIG is simple but straight to the point.
"I hope you do it."
