SaskTel and the Wicihitowin Foundation presented Saskatchewan's highest achieving First Nation and Métis youth with awards of recognition at the 16th annual SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards in Saskatoon May 23, 2014.
The SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards is the culmination of the foundations efforts to seek out and recognize today's Aboriginal youth who are excelling or becoming a strong role model in their community.
"We have had a record number of applications this year and the momentum leading up to the gala each year is growing. These awards have become so important to not just the youth, but for their families and communities for the inspiration the awards and recipients generate," says committee chairperson Colleen Cameron.
The awards recognize youth who have demonstrated exceptional ability, skills and cultural spirit in the areas of academics, sports, performing arts, spirit, education and group. Eleven youth and one group will be recognized for outstanding achievement in each category.
To accommodate the large interest in seeing the awards ceremony, the Foundation has partnered with Keewatin Career Development Corporation in La Ronge to live stream the entire show. Now people all across the world can join the celebration.
The 16th annual SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards were held at TCU Place, 35-22nd Street East, Saskatoon on May 23, at 6:00 pm starting with a grand entry.
